Nepriama reč v angličtine: oznamovacie vety a otázky

Priama reč (direct speech): John said, "I live in London."
Nepriama reč (reported): John said (that) he lived in London.
(Slovenský preklad: John povedal, že býva v Londýne.)

Priama reč vs nepriamá reč
- Priama reč: používame úvodzovky a originálne slová hovoriaceho.
- Nepriama reč: spravidla zmeníme osobné zámená, slovné časy a ukazovacie/časové slová; často pridáme "that" po reporting verb (voliteľné v hovorovej reči).

Kedy používame nepriamu reč?
  • Pri prepripovedaní rozhovorov: She said that she was tired.
  • V spravodajstve alebo písomnom zhrnutí výpovedí: He told the police that he had seen her.
  • Pri opakovaní otázok: She asked if I would come.

Ako tvoriť nepriamu reč pre oznamovacie vety (statements)?

Základné kroky pri prevode oznamovacích viet:
1) Určite reporting verb (said, told, explained, warned ...).
2) Ak je reporting verb v minulom čase (said, told), zvyčajne posuňte čas vety (backshift).
3) Zmeňte osobné zámená podľa toho, kto hlási a kto hovoril.
4) Zmeňte časové a miestne ukazovatele (today → that day, here → there, tomorrow → the next day).
5) Odstráňte úvodzovky a upravte slovosled podľa potreby.

Reporting verbs (príklady):
- say (He said (that) ...), say to someone (He said to me (that) ...)
- tell (He told me (that) ... — "tell" vyžaduje objekt: told someone)
- ask (pri otázkach), explain, reply, promise, warn, suggest, offer

Zmena zámen (časté):
- I → he/she/they
- we → they (alebo we, ak reporter bol súčasťou "we")
- you → I/he/she/they (podľa kontextu)
- my → his/her
- me → him/her

Príklady:
- Direct: Tom: "I will help you."
Reported: Tom said (that) he would help me.
(Tom povedal, že mi pomôže.)
- Direct: Mary: "I am tired."
Reported: Mary said (that) she was tired.
(Mary povedala, že je unavená.)

Backshifting – zmeny časov (prehľad s príkladmi)

Ak reporting verb stojí v minulom čase (napr. said, told), bežne posúvame čas o jednu "úroveň späť":

- Present simple → Past simple
Direct: "I live in London." → Reported: He said (that) he lived in London.
- Present continuous → Past continuous
Direct: "I am reading a book." → Reported: She said (that) she was reading a book.
- Present perfect → Past perfect
Direct: "I have finished my homework." → Reported: He said (that) he had finished his homework.
- Past simple → Past perfect
Direct: "I bought a car yesterday." → Reported: He said (that) he had bought a car the day before.
- Past continuous → Past perfect continuous (často)
Direct: "I was working all day." → Reported: He said (that) he had been working all day.
- Past perfect → Past perfect (bez zmeny)
Direct: "I had already left." → Reported: He said (that) he had already left.
- Will → would
Direct: "I will call you." → Reported: She said (that) she would call me.
- Can → could
Direct: "I can swim." → Reported: He said (that) he could swim.
- May → might
Direct: "She may come." → Reported: He said (that) she might come.
- Must → had to (najčastejšie)
Direct: "I must go now." → Reported: She said (that) she had to go then.
- Should, would, could, might (často bez zmeny)
Direct: "You should see a doctor." → Reported: He said (that) I should see a doctor.

Výnimky k backshiftingu:
- Ak je reporting verb v prítomnom čase (says, is saying), zvyčajne čas nemeníme: She says (that) she is tired.
- Ak výrok zostáva pravdivý (vedecké fakty, všeobecné pravdy), nemusíte backshiftovať: The teacher said, "Water boils at 100°C." → The teacher said (that) water boils at 100°C.

Ako hlásiť otázky (reported questions)?

Dôležitá zmena: pri hlásení otázok zvyčajne rušíme otázkovú inverziu a používame štandardný poradok slov (subject + verb). Podľa typu otázky postupujeme inak.

Áno/nie otázky (Yes/No questions)
  • Použijeme whether alebo if (v hovorovej reči častejšie if):
Direct: "Do you like coffee?" → Reported: She asked if I liked coffee. (Povedala/Opýtala sa, či mám rád kávu.)
  • Príklad s backshiftingom a zmenou času:
Direct: "Will they arrive on time?" → Reported: He asked whether they would arrive on time.

Pozor na "ask" a "say":
- Pri otázkach používame ask (alebo inquire/wonder):
Správne: He asked me if I liked it.
Nesprávne: He said me if I liked it.

Polite requests a nabídky (môžu vyzerať ako otázky):
- Otázky typu "Could you...?/Will you...?" pri hlásení často premeníme na "ask + someone + to + infinitive":
Direct: "Could you open the window?" → Reported: He asked me to open the window.
Direct: "Will you help me?" → Reported: She asked him to help her.

Wh‑otázky (What, Where, Why, When, Who, How...)
  • Pri hlásení použijeme slovíčko wh‑ a klasický poradok slov (subject + verb), bez inverzie:
Direct: "Where do you live?" → Reported: He asked where I lived. Direct: "What are you doing?" → Reported: She asked what I was doing. Direct: "Why did you leave?" → Reported: He asked why I had left. Direct: "How long have you been here?" → Reported: She asked how long I had been there. Direct: "Who broke the window?" → Reported: The teacher asked who had broken the window.

Ak wh‑slovo je predmet alebo predmet predložky:
- Direct: "Who did you speak to?" → Reported: He asked who I had spoken to.
(Formálnejšie: He asked to whom I had spoken.)

Zmeny časových a miestnych ukazovateľov

Pri hlásení často meníme slová označujúce čas a miesto:
- now → then
- today → that day
- yesterday → the day before / the previous day
- tomorrow → the next day / the following day
- this → that
- these → those
- here → there
- ago → before / earlier

Príklady:
- Direct: "I will see you tomorrow," she said.
Reported: She said (that) she would see me the next day.
- Direct: "I met him two days ago," she said.
Reported: She said (that) she had met him two days before.

Bežné chyby a ako sa im vyhnúť

1) Nezmeniť slovosled v hlásených otázkach (inverzia):
- Nesprávne: He asked where are you going.
- Správne: He asked where I was going.

2) Použiť "say" namiesto "tell" s objektom:
- Nesprávne: He said me he was late.
- Správne: He told me he was late.
("say" potrebuje predložku, ak má priamy príjemca: He said to me that ...)

3) Zabudnúť zmeniť čas (backshift) keď je reporting verb v minulom čase:
- Nesprávne: He said that he is tired.
- Správne (ak reporting verb je past a situácia nie je všeobecná pravda): He said that he was tired.

4) Nesprávne modalné zmeny:
- Nesprávne: She said, "I must go" → She said she must go. (často lepšie: she had to go)
- Správne: She said (that) she had to go.

Rýchly prehľad — kontrolný zoznam pri prevode

1) Kto hovoril a kto hlási? (zmeňte zámená)
2) Je reporting verb v minulom čase? Ak áno, treba backshiftovať?
3) Zmeňte časy podľa pravidiel (pozri zoznam vyššie).
4) Zmeňte časové a miestne ukazovatele (today → that day atď.).
5) Pri otázkach: áno/nie → if/whether + oznamovací poradok; wh‑ → wh‑slovo + subject + verb.
6) Odstráňte úvodzovky, pridajte "that" podľa potreby.

Príklad krok za krokom:
Direct: Sarah said, "I have invited Tom to the party tomorrow."
Kroky: (1) reporting verb = said (past) → backshift; (2) I → she; (3) have invited → had invited; (4) tomorrow → the next day; (5) odstrániť úvodzovky + použiť "that" (voliteľné).
Reported: Sarah said (that) she had invited Tom to the party the next day.
(Slovensky: Sarah povedala, že pozvala Toma na párty nasledujúci deň.)

Slovníček (glossary)

- Direct speech (priama reč): presné citovanie slov v úvodzovkách.
- Reported speech / Indirect speech (nepriama reč): preformulovanie slov hovoriaceho bez úvodzoviek, s úpravou zámen, časov a ukazovateľov.
- Reporting verb (sloveso pri hlásení): say, tell, ask, explain, warn, promise atď.
- Backshifting: posunutie časov (napr. present → past) pri prevode do nepriamej reči.

Záver

Nepriama reč je kombinácia pravidiel: zmena zámen, backshift časov, úprava časových a miestnych ukazovateľov a správny výber reporting verb. Ak si urobíte krátky kontrolný zoznam (kto hovoril → uprav zámená → zmeň časy ak treba → uprav časové/mestné výrazy → otázky: if/whether alebo wh‑ + subject + verb), prevod bude správny. Pre jasnosť vždy ukážte pôvodnú priame reč a výslednú nepriamiu reč vedľa seba — pomôže to ľahko rozpoznať vzory.
