Hacer preguntas con 'wh' (who, what, where, when, why, how) en tiempo presente
A1Cómo hacer preguntas "wh" (who, what, where, when, why, how) en el presente
Equivalencias rápidas en español:
- who = quién
- what = qué
- where = dónde
- when = cuándo
- why = por qué
- how = cómo
- which = cuál / cuál de
- whose = de quién
- whom = a quién / quién (formal)
Ej.: "Where do you live?" (¿Dónde vives?).
- Presente continuo (am/is/are + -ing): para acciones en progreso ahora o planes futuros cercanos. Ej.: "What are you doing?" (¿Qué estás haciendo?).
- Verbo "to be" como verbo principal tiene su propia estructura: "Who is the teacher?"
- Do se usa con I, you, we, they.
- Does se usa con he, she, it.
Ejemplos:
- "What do you want?" — ¿Qué quieres?
- "Where do they work?" — ¿Dónde trabajan ellos?
- "Where does he work?" — ¿Dónde trabaja él? (observe does + base verb)
Ejemplos:
- "Who lives next door?" — ¿Quién vive al lado?
- "Who knows the answer?"
Ejemplos:
- "What are you doing?" — ¿Qué estás haciendo?
- "Where are they going?" — ¿Adónde van?
- "Who is coming to the party?" — ¿Quién viene a la fiesta?
Ejemplos:
- "Who is the manager?" — ¿Quién es el gerente?
- "How are you?" — ¿Cómo estás?
- "Where are the keys?" — ¿Dónde están las llaves?
- How + adjective/adverb: "How tall are you?" — ¿Cuánto mides? / ¿Qué altura tienes?
- How many + plural countable noun: "How many books do you have?" — ¿Cuántos libros tienes?
- How much + uncountable noun: "How much water do you drink?" — ¿Cuánta agua bebes?
- How long: duración — "How long does the trip take?" — ¿Cuánto dura el viaje?
- How often: frecuencia — "How often do you study?" — ¿Con qué frecuencia estudias?
- Which: elección limitada — "Which color do you prefer?" — ¿Qué color prefieres? (entre opciones)
- Whose: posesión — "Whose bag is this?" — ¿De quién es esta bolsa?
- Whom: objeto formal — "Whom did you call?" — ¿A quién llamaste? (en inglés hablado suele usarse who: "Who did you call?")
- Informal: "Who do you live with?" — ¿Con quién vives?
- Formal: "With whom do you live?" — (más formal/escrito)
- Wh-word + auxiliary (do/does/am/is/are) + subject + main verb + rest?
Ejemplos que siguen la fórmula:
- "What do you like to eat?" — ¿Qué te gusta comer?
- "Why doesn't she come to class?" — ¿Por qué no viene ella a clase?
- "How are you today?" — ¿Cómo estás hoy?
- Incorrecto: "What you want?"
- Correcto: "What do you want?"
2) Usar do/does con el verbo "to be":
- Incorrecto: "Where do you are?"
- Correcto: "Where are you?"
3) Usar does con sujetos plurales (o do con he/she/it):
- Incorrecto: "Does they speak English?"
- Correcto: "Do they speak English?"
4) Usar la forma -s después de does:
- Incorrecto: "Does he goes to school?"
- Correcto: "Does he go to school?" (después de does, verbo en forma base)
5) Orden incorrecto en presente continuo:
- Incorrecto: "What you are doing?"
- Correcto: "What are you doing?"
6) Confusión con how much / how many:
- Incorrecto: "How many money do you have?"
- Correcto: "How much money do you have?" / "How many coins do you have?"
- En conversación tendrás contracciones: "What're you doing?" "Where's she from?" — son naturales y frecuentes.
- Si dudas entre "which" y "what": usa "which" cuando hay opciones limitadas ("Which of these books do you want?").
- "Who is the teacher?" — ¿Quién es el profesor?
- "Who lives here?" — ¿Quién vive aquí? (wh = sujeto)
- "Who do you know here?" — ¿A quién conoces aquí? (wh = objeto)
What:
- "What do you want?" — ¿Qué quieres?
- "What does she do?" — ¿Qué hace ella? / ¿A qué se dedica?
- "What are they doing?" — ¿Qué están haciendo?
Where:
- "Where do you live?" — ¿Dónde vives?
- "Where is the bank?" — ¿Dónde está el banco?
- "Where are my keys?" — ¿Dónde están mis llaves?
When:
- "When do classes start?" — ¿Cuándo empiezan las clases?
- "When are you leaving?" — ¿Cuándo te vas?
Why:
- "Why do you study English?" — ¿Por qué estudias inglés?
- "Why is he late?" — ¿Por qué llega tarde?
How:
- "How are you?" — ¿Cómo estás?
- "How do you go to work?" — ¿Cómo vas al trabajo?
- "How many brothers do you have?" — ¿Cuántos hermanos tienes?
- "How much is this?" — ¿Cuánto cuesta esto?
- "How long does the meeting last?" — ¿Cuánto dura la reunión?
Which / Whose / Whom:
- "Which shirt do you prefer?" — ¿Qué camisa prefieres?
- "Whose phone is this?" — ¿De quién es este teléfono?
- "Who did you call?" (informal) — ¿A quién llamaste? / "Whom did you call?" (formal)
